The DCMS-funded Liverpool 5G Create: Connecting Health and Social Care project officially came to an end on 30th September 2022, after running for two years.
The end of the project does not mean the end of the collaboration – far from it. The team are exploring opportunities to maximise the impact of the network and grow the network area. The Liverpool 5G vision is to have an independent civic 5G network deployed across Liverpool which is owned and managed by the public sector, allowing all citizens to have access to affordable, reliable connectivity to enable access to public services.
However, the end of the project is a good time to review how far we’ve come. Here are some highlights from the last two years.

- £7.2m invested by DCMS and Liverpool 5G project partners between 2020 & September 2022
- Over 8,237 properties have access to the network, including residential homes, GP surgeries, care homes and community buildings
- Thanks to the Liverpool 5G network, Kensington, Liverpool now has the largest 5G Stand Alone network at street level in Europe.

- 5G Innovation of the Year – Digital Leaders
- Cambridge Wireless’ Connecting People Award
- Prolific North’s Tech for Good Award
- The project was also shortlisted for numerous other awards, including “most potentially disruptive business model” at the 5G Week Awards, “Digital Leader of the Year” (Ann Williams) by Digital Leaders, “Maximum Citizen Impact and Reach” at the UK5G Showcase Awards 2022, and “Tech Entrepreneur of the Year 2022” (Rosemary Kay, E-Health Cluster Director) by Prolific North.
